I’m Lara Heintz- an award winning documentary producer, director, and journalist based in Brooklyn by way of Ohio and Colombia.
I have ten years of experience producing, directing, and developing longform documentary and news across digital platforms and TV broadcast. I’m particularly drawn to making immersive character driven films that explore the complicated identities, movements, and powers that shape our world.
I started my career at Vice Media, producing and directing news and cultural documentary series across Motherboard, Vice.com, and Vice News. I contributed original stories to the Emmy-Award winning series Vice News Tonight, and was a producer on the Peabody and GLAAD Award winning series, Transnational. In recent years I’ve worked with companies such as CNET, Bloomberg, Scripps, and Sandbox Films. My work has aired on HBO and Amazon Prime, and screened at Sundance and Tribeca Film Festivals.
I hold a dual bachelors degree in Political Science and French from the Ohio State University, and a Masters Degree from the New School in Media Theory. Most recently I was a development producer on “We Are Ayenda”, a critically acclaimed branded documentary about the Afghan Youth National Football Team which won the Grand Prix in Entertainment at the 2024 Cannes Lions.
I’m always looking for projects with passionate people to collaborate on, and value work environments that are thoughtful and inclusive. I was certified in Hostile Environment training in 2018 and 2024. Let’s talk!
